So I’ve been pretty quiet and watching some of the states pass these laws allowing people to refuse service to LGBT folks. I haven’t commented on it, for several reasons. One, because I think my views and thoughts may offend some of my friends. But, I’ve decided, that I don’t care, and I’d just like to voice my opinion. That being said, if you dont’ want to read this, than don’t. If you don’t want to hear what I have to say, or my thoughts, then go back. Take the blue pill, and head back to facebook. Or take the red pill and keep reading. Just remember, as you read on the frontpage of my website here… My views are my views, bla bla bla.
Now listen. I don’t claim to be the “best” Christian out there. I don’t regularly attend church these days, mostly because IF I do have a Sunday off, i’m typically spending it with my daughter, or I’m just exhausted from work and relaxing. Typically. That being said, I believe in God. I believe in treating people with kindness and compassion. I believe there IS a God. As far as what denomination, or “brand” of church I follow, there isn’t really one. I believe in the above.
So to all these people who are apparently supporting these bills in the name of “Christianity”, I just have one question that can be asked in several different ways. In the Bible verse “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28), where does it say “only if you are straight and not gay / part of the LGBT crowd. Or how about the verse that says “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone”. Please note, I’m not implying that A. I’m without Sin, or B. that being LGBT is a sin. How about the verse that says ““Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” (Matthew 7:1). What about the verse that says “God is Love”. What’s loving about telling somebody that they can’t buy stuff from you because you believe in Jesus, and the way they are living their life is “against your religion”. How about “…‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” What part of turning people away and judging them is loving your neighbor? Get over yourselves.
Maybe instead of judging people and spending our time deciding not to allow certain people / groups to do business with us, we spend more time being FRIENDLY, and NONJUDGMENTAL. I wonder to myself how many of these people who have voted these laws into fruition have been divorced, cheated on their wives or husbands, embezzled money, and any number of other things that the Bible also says are bad. There’s SO many other issues that are SO MORE IMPORTANT than worrying about judging peoples “lifestyle choices”. How about we spend HALF the time that we spent working on putting these ridiculous bills into place focusing on other issues. Like maybe the homeless issues from city to city, children that don’t have proper clothing or nutrition, or improving our education system, or improving healthcare for ALL folks, or improving public transportation, or almost any other issue out there.
Well now look… I’ve gone and judged people. My point is judging people because of their lifestyle choices is stupid. I fear that some of my “Church” friends are going to un-friend me for this post. Actually, I guess I don’t really fear it. That’s where I am on this. Comments are welcome below or on facebook.
What we need is a little more Love. And a little less Judgmental. 🙂
